The Red Peppers Dixieland Jazz Band

Toronto, Canada

Classic Jazz in the style of Armstrong, Beiderbecke, Condon and others.

Picture
The Red Peppers Dixieland Jazz Band, formed in the classic style of Eddie Condon and Louis Armstrong, have been wowing jazz fans since their inception in 2001 with hot, swinging Dixieland. They have played to enthusiastic listeners at the Rex Jazz Bar as part of the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival and have appeared, by popular demand, four years running at the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival. They have packed the house in Barrie for the SimcoeCounty Jazz Society and were the opening band at the Parry Sound Acoustic Jazz Festival in 2005. They opened the Niagara Jazz Festival in August 2007 and have just completed a five year run at K.C. McFly’s in Scarborough. The Red Peppers appear regularly at The Lancaster  Jazz Club in Kitchener, one of the oldest classic jazz societies in the country.

The band is led by drummer John Volpe and includes some of the finest traditional jazz players in Toronto. Roy Green leads the front line on cornet with Peter Brown on trombone and Harry Timmermans on clarinet/tenor. They are joined by guitarist Norm Stewart and bassist Vince Volpe, who together with John, complete the hard-driving rhythm section. You will not be able to keep those feet from tappin’.
